As a busy mom trying to manage work with family life, committing to a New Year's resolution can seem daunting and unachievable. It’s time to put an end to that and ring in the new year with success in sight! It’s easy to get caught up in the demands of motherhood and neglect your own needs and goals! In 2023, we are going to stop the cycle of resolving to make a change and then not following through. Here are some of my favorite tips that have helped me stay on track to reach my New Year's Resolutions!
Making a vision board with encouraging images and words, then posting it in your house can give you a daily reminder of what you are working towards. Looking at what you want every day gently pushes you forward to create the life you desire! Your vision board could include writing a book, learning how to meditate, taking your family on a vacation, connecting more with your little ones, etc! This is YOUR vision board, there is no “right” way to create it, just follow your heart.
Although I have never read the book Vivid Vision, I have heard about Cameron Herold's concept of writing a news article about your success from the future. Too often people don't visualize their ideal future because they simply do not make the time to visualize it. Cameron details how to visualize and write down your ideal future so your dreams can start becoming reality!
Writing out your goals is key to helping you achieve them. According to an article by New Tech Northwest, the process of writing down your goals forces the subconscious to accept the commitment you have made to work towards your goal. It has been suggested that you should write out your goals each day to help keep you focused throughout the day! No matter if your goal is to get your little one to try a new vegetable that day or if you want to write an entire blog post for your business, write them down and commit!
Instead of trying to implement multiple changes at once, focus on 1 or 2 smaller goals within your main goal. If your main goal is to improve your overall health, instead of saying you will exercise for an hour and a half every day, go for a daily walk, stick to a diet, and avoid all sugar, alcohol, and junk food... Choose one or two of those smaller goals and focus on those. You will most likely have more success and feel motivated to keep going!
After a certain amount of time of sticking to that mini goal (ex: 2 months), you can add in another goal on top of that. Focusing on smaller goals helps you get stronger, become more confident, and be able to try more challenging things.
Sometimes if you do not set a specific deadline to meet your goal, it can linger at the bottom of your to-do list. That’s why I recommend setting a goal due date! When you set a date, you’ll be able to track your progress and smaller goals to know where you stand with meeting your overall goal!
When you keep track of your progress, it allows you to see how far you’ve come and how close you are to reaching your goal! This will also be beneficial in knowing if you are on the right track or if you need to adjust your routine a little bit in order to maintain progress.
Your mindset plays a huge part in reaching your goals. It’s time to develop a “glass-half-full” approach to your everyday life, including your thoughts about how you are going to reach your goals. As a mom, it can sometimes feel hard to use the “glass-half-full” approach every day, I get it! Being a parent can be hard, and you may find that you are comparing yourself to other mompreneurs who seem to have it all figured out. Well, I have something to tell you… even they don’t have it all figured out!
While working on your mindset, it is important to be patient with yourself and prioritize your needs. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup, mama! Read inspirational books, surround yourself with motivated people, and believe in yourself. Work on your thought process and attitude every chance you get. If you are working towards a goal and you’re approaching it with the “glass-half-empty” mentality, reaching that goal is going to seem further and further away.
Learn how to change your mindset by challenging your limiting beliefs, facing your fears, shifting your perspective, changing how you talk to yourself, and getting support.
