I struggle with time management now that I have a baby, I think many of you moms out there can relate to this! In a perfect world, I would spend every second of every day taking care of my sweet baby, but as a full-time mom and real estate agent, my plate can feel a little full! That is why I am going to share with you 5 tips to help you manage your time for your busy mom life!
Sometimes I find that as someone who "works for herself," when I get out of the house and go to a local coffee shop (my go-to places are "The Cakery" or "Brew Ha Ha" in Erie), I am way more productive than when I am at my house. When I am at my house, I see everything that needs to be done. Dishes, laundry, organizing, oh my! This, of course, is when I have childcare! If I don't have childcare, I find that going to a space in my house that is away from everything/a new environment (a spare bedroom, basement office, etc.) then I can "get away" to work.
I also find it helpful to plan to do laundry/grocery shop/meal plan/pick up the house early in the week and then I am not behind all week. Creating a list of daily tasks to help me keep up certainly makes my life easier! Some of those daily tasks include cleaning up as I go - spending a few minutes putting my clothes away instead of leaving them on the floor, etc. It helps me keep the house clean in real time.
My husband and I started scheduling out evening work time where we trade off time with our son and time to work in 1-1.5 hour increments. For example, he will spend quality time with him for bath time/time to play and I will get some work done, and then I will spend quality time with him playing/reading books/bedtime. It gives us each some alone quality time with our son and also allows us to get caught up on work that needs done.
Working moms tend to put themselves last on their to-do list. Making time for yourself regenerates your inner strength and will go a long way towards giving you the energy to be a hardworking mom! Remember: you can’t pour from an empty cup. Go to the gym, take a relaxing bubble bath, meet a friend for coffee, start a book you’ve been wanting to read, whatever feels like self care for you! Make a deal with your spouse allowing you one night a week to do your own thing!
I know, sleep can feel like the last thing on your mind when it seems that you’re juggling a million things at once. Sleep is necessary to keep your body and your brain moving efficiently. Without it, you're not going to be the best version of yourself, and it's going to take a toll on your family life, as well as your career. Try to get into bed at a reasonable time every night, and squeeze in a few naps throughout the day if you can!
Some days will be a hot mess and others will feel like you’re a superhuman. Don't be so tough on yourself when you make mistakes. You're only human. Just continue doing the best you can with what you have where you are. The most important thing is that you’re doing what's best for you and your family.
You got this, mama!
